Bicycle theft can be a problem for students, faculty and staff on campus. All bikes are required to be registered. Registration of a bicycle is 免费的. Failure to register your bicycle could result in your bicycle being impounded, 引导, and/or ticketed.

Why Register?
Registering a bicycle with University Police provides a record of ownership, which makes it easier for law enforcement officials to return it to the rightful owner if it is lost or stolen.
Where to Park
Throughout campus, bicycles may be parked and locked to any bike rack, or other properly identified area.
Where NOT to Park
Do not lock your bicycle to signpost, trees, fences, hand rails, or disability ramps. Also, do not park or stow your bicycle in building lobbies. Bicycles locked in places other than bike racks or bike lockers could impede pedestrian or vehicular traffic and may be impounded, 引导, and/or ticketed.

Most of the bicycles stolen on campus are either unlocked or have improperly secured locks at the time of theft.
Be aware that any cable-lock can be easily cut. Do not entrust your bicycle to a cable-lock alone.
U-locks are typically recommended over cable locks. Its efficient design and solid construction make it less prone to tampering.

Remove the front wheel and place the bike against a bike rack
Take the front wheel and place it next to the rear wheel
Place the U-lock around the bike rack and the bike seat tube and through the two wheels

Ride where motorist can see you.
If you cannot see the vehicles mirrors, they cannot see you
Make eye contact; look into the vehicle's window to assure that the driver has seen you
Ride in a predictable straight line where you are visible to motorists
Be aware that some motorist do not always expect to see cyclist on the roadway
Wear the correct helmet.
Wear reflective strips on your bicycle, baggage, clothing, and helmet to help illuminate you.
A bicycle is always required by law to have a headlight at night.
Always ride with the flow of traffic.
Ride in the right-third of the right-most lane, which is typically 3 feet from the left of the curb
Be cautious when riding next to a vehicle. The vehicle may turn in front of you without warning.
Riding against the flow of traffic is both dangerous and against the law.
Normally, slower traffic keeps to the right and faster traffic passes on the left.
Cyclists must obey all traffic control devices including stop signs, traffic signals, and lane markings.
Cyclists legally have the right to take full control of the lane. The motorist approaching you from the rear is always required to slow and follow if its not possible to pass safely.
Do not ride on the sidewalk.
Always yield to pedestrians in crosswalks - It's state law.
Riding in violation of the traffic laws greatly increases your risk of a collision.
